UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA JAZZ LAB PRESENTS:
7th Annual Summer Jazz Camp
June 25 - June 30, 2017

Join the respected UCO jazz faculty for a jam-packed week designed to get YOU playing jazz! Participate daily in combos, instrumental master-classes, improvisation & theory sessions, jazz history presentations, big band reading sessions, and student jam sessions in a fun and relaxed environment. Open to all instrumentalists age 14 and up. Space will be limited. $300 tuition fee includes two group meals and an official camp t-shirt. Convenient on-campus UCO housing is available with rates starting at $35 per night double occupancy. (Please note a separate housing application must be filled out.) Placement auditions will be held on Sunday June 25, 2017 starting at 5PM in the UCO Jazz Lab.


Please note placement auditions are only intended to group students into appropriate combos based on ability level. Every student is guaranteed full participation once application and tuition payment have been processed.

Sunday, June 25 (UCO Jazz Lab - 100 East 5th Street in Edmond

1:00-4:30 Housing check-in if applicable. (UCO Campus Map

5:00 Student Orientation Meeting/Registration Confirmations - Arrive Early

5:45 Buffet style dinner provided for all participants by Hideaway Pizza

6:30-9:30 Placement audition held upstairs (scheduling details TBA)

6:30‐7:30 Informal Jazz concert featuring jazz camp staff

7:30­‐9:30 Student jam session with jazz camp staff

9:30PM Audition results posted–END OF DAY


** Throughout the week, transportation will be provided as needed between the School of Music building on the main campus and the UCO Jazz Lab. Students under the age of 18 staying in the dorms will be supervised by a responsible adult camp counselor. It is NOT necessary to stay in the dorms, but is the most affordable option for most out of town participants. Rates start at only $35 per night double occupancy.

9:00-9:50 Jazz Theory Class (General & Experienced Sections) - Jazz Lab

10:00-10:50 Jazz Improvisation Class (Beginning, Intermediate, & Experienced Sections) - Jazz Lab

11:00-12:00 Jazz History Presentations (One Large Section) - Jazz Lab

12:00-12:55 LUNCH on your own (many restaurants are open on campus & within walking distance of the Jazz Lab)

1:00 - 3:00 Combo Rehearsals (multiple groups will be formed) - Jazz Lab & SOM

3:00 - 3:30 Afternoon Break

3:30 - 5:00 Masterclass Sessions (group sessions for each specific instrument) - Jazz Lab & SOM

5:00 - 6:30 DINNER on your own (many restaurants are open on campus & within walking distance of the Jazz Lab)

6:30 - 9:30 Student Big Band Reading Sessions & Jam Sessions at the UCO Jazz Lab

9:30 END OF DAY


Friday, June 30  (UCO Jazz Lab & School of Music Building)

9:00-9:50 Final Jazz Theory Classes

10:00-10:50 Final Jazz Improvisation Classes

11:00-12:00 Final Jazz History Presentation

1:00 - 3:00 Final Student Combo Rehearsals

3:00 - 4:00 Afternoon Break - check out of housing if necessary and prepare for concert

4:00 - 7:00 STUDENT CONCERT at the UCO JAZZ LAB

7:00 - 8:00 EVENING BREAK

8:00 - 10:30 BRIAN GORRELL & JAZZ COMPANY CONCERT - selected students will be invited to sit in.

10:30 Camp is officially Concluded
